Augrabies Falls

public

The desert of the National Park is broken by the thunder of the Falls named from the Khoikhoi ‘Place of Great Noise’. Good viewing points on the treachorously slippery cliffs reveal the mayhem of the diving Orange River. Great scenery. The evergreen ‘camel thorn’ and succulent ‘quiver’ trees support a surprising range of wildlfie from klipspringer and springbok to 150 species of bird and many reptiles – rock lizard, geckos and snakes that include Cape and spitting cobra and puff adder

  • Game Drives

Take advantage of the well-priced game drives for an introduction to the creatures that make this arid territory their home. Timing around dusk allows a viewing of the nocturnal activities as many creatures become active.55,383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide sanctuary to a diversity of species - from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to herds of springbok, elegant gemsbok and giraffe.

  • Desert Landscapes

Aside from the awesome views of the gorge, the park has much to offer in showing off its raw geology where plantlife is sparse. Much of the area is moon-like in its dryness and nonetheless fascinating in providing a enviromnet unfamilar to most.Picturesque names such as Moon Rock, Ararat and Echo Corner are descriptive of this rocky region. Klipspringer and quiver trees stand starkly against the African sky. Temperatures swing from hottest to coldest - making the harshest of conditions.
