Tucked below the Orange River on the Namibian border, the Park is home only to the hardiest that can survive the minimal rainfall. This is mountain wilderness – desolation and tranquillity – punctuated by long abandoned diamond mines and hopes of men.Amazingly, the local Namaqua people manage to maintain a grazing existence along with over 50 mammal species, a further 50 reptile groups and close to 20 bird species. Halfmens and quiver trees again predominate with a rich variety of succulents.
